Just like the picture above, no child is the same. Every student has different learning needs and abilities and as a teacher I hope I can cater to those differences the best that I can. I believe that every child should be treated and assessed equally. As a teacher I have full intentions of including various activities in my lessons to make sure that I target all the learning needs of my students. I want my classroom and my teaching to appeal to students the best that I can.
Not only do I want my students to learn what the Alberta Curriculum wants them to learn, but I want them to learn life skills. Skills that will get them to where they want to be later in life. I want them to learn from their own experiences, not just the experiences of others. I want to incorporate various sports, dances and activities into my classroom to bring diverse cultural awareness into my classroom.
I had the best relationships with teachers while I was growing up. I felt like they were always there for me and willing to help me with anything I needed. Those relationships had a huge impact on the type of teacher I want to become. I want to have relationships with my students that are strong, personable and full of care. I want my students to feel like my classroom is a safe and caring environment for them to come to each and every day. I want students to feel comfortable enough that they put themselves out there and learn to the best of their ability.
I want to be the difference maker in children’s lives. I want to be the lamplighter that helps children illuminate their ideas and thoughts. I want to be a muscle builder that helps children strengthen their minds so they can achieve bigger tasks in the future. I want to be a gardener who plants seeds in the minds of children, and helps them nourish those brilliant ideas. I want to be a travel guide to help them along their path of learning, schooling, education and their greatest path, life.
I want to be a teacher for children.
